Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – January 16, 1985

I went to the assembly early in the morning. A heavy fog covered the streets. It is also raining. This year the rainfall is good. We had a joint meeting of the government board and heads of parliamentary commissions, and this was the first meeting. It was held very well. I ran the meeting. Mr. Prime Minister and I talked a little. The opinions and criticisms of the parties regarding the bills were discussed. Useful content was presented. We decided to have this meeting monthly.

In the evening, the board of parliament had a meeting. Mr. [Mohammed] Rashidian [Abadan representative] came and complained to the judiciary that they do not respect the dignity of the representatives. Mr. [Mohammed Ali] Hadi wanted to inform the representatives about the important issues of the country in secret meetings. After the prayer, I did the delayed work.

At night, we were the guests of Mr. [Mousavi] Ardabili with the chiefs of forces and Ahmad Agha. The expediency of accepting a truce in the Persian Gulf was discussed and it was agreed that Ahmad Agha would seek permission from the Imam. The Imam has already opposed and there was a discussion about the time to use the Scud B missile - which we got from Libya - against Baghdad. It was supposed to be during the future attack; If Iraq uses missiles, these missiles should be used against our cities as countermeasures. Other issues were also discussed, including the trial of Tudeh party members.
