Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – January 12, 1988

I arrived at the parliament at half past seven in the morning. Before the order, I talked about the Imam's second answer to Mr. Khamenei, who was praised by him, and also about Ansar al-Mujahideen. We had [Mr. Aghazadeh's] answer to the Article 90 Commission, which angered the right wing. I reached my office work in breathing.

In the afternoon, Mrs. Mirzaei came and pleaded for the pardon of her husband, who has been sentenced to ten years in prison. Mr. [Mohammed Jafar] Mahalati, who came from the United Nations, came to report on the latest situation of the Security Council and consult about their own plans to prevent the issuance of a resolution to sanction Iran.

In the evening, I went to the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. The program of Islamic education lessons and the involvement of Mr. Montazeri's representatives in university affairs were criticized. It was supposed to be a thought. The same issue of medical faculties of Islamic Azad University and the opinion of the Ministry of Health and Medicine was raised in the meeting.

After Maghrib prayer, I went to the President's office. They have a cold. There was also Dr. Velayati. We talked about traveling to Pakistan and negotiating with Zia-ul-Haq to coordinate on strengthening relations with China and creating a way to China, for the conditions of the naval blockade. Both Pakistan and China have asked us to do this, and it was decided to discuss the establishment of a gas pipeline from Iran to the east - India and China - through Pakistan, and also to set the time for the meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Iran and the Persian Gulf Coordination Council, and then the meeting of the foreign ministers to praise the relations.

Because Mr. Khamenei and the Prime Minister were both sick, we did not have a meeting of the heads of state. I came home at night. Chastity had gone to Mohsen's house. The house is quiet. Yasser is at the front and Mehdi has gone to Karaj. I ate dinner alone.

It says a lot about shortcomings. I warned that in the news about the scholars, all these words "Hujjat al-Islam wal Muslimin" and the like should not be repeated.
