Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – February 29, 1984

Early in the morning, Mr. [Mohammed Baqir] Hakim and some members of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution of Iraq came. They are trying to plan for the areas of Iraq that will come under our control. They did not know about the evacuation of East Tigris. It was said that the Iraqi immigrants were very excited and turned to the fronts. I signed an order regarding the participation of the Karbala camp in future operations.

We decided to use the innovative device of an officer that can use 750-pound bombs against the enemy from the ground. We walked around the camp for a while. We saw a cannon ball that fell there during the occupation of Iraq and did not work. The air force commander informed that he bombed the area east of the Tigris. They informed that the Iraqis have thrown water in front of our forces. Mehdi and Agha Jalal went to Ahvaz.

Mr. Prime Minister informed that ten thousand anti-gas masks - which were at the disposal of the navy - have been sent to the front. Mr. Alayi came and gave a report on the performance of helicopters in transporting troops to the island.

In the early evening, we went to the Najaf camp to control the operation. The operation was supposed to start from the first night in three axes, but there was no noticeable progress in two axes, and it was good in one axis - the army of Imam Hossein (AS). We stayed up until the morning and kept in touch. They could not come from the island where they were supposed to enter from the back. In general, some of what we wanted was obtained. The line was broken, but they did not reach the golden bridge.
