Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – February 2, 1983

I stayed home until noon and studied. My guards and their wives went to kiss the Imam's hand and then came to our house. I spoke to them. Hossein Sharifian came from Mashhad and reported that the factory where he works, which had been confiscated and then, after the Imam's eight-point decree, part of it had been returned to its owners. The factory is under the control of the Martyrs Foundation in Mashhad; he had spoken with Mr. [Mehdi] Karroubi. Coincidentally, Mr. Karroubi was at our house at that time.

At noon we went to Mr. Khamenei's office. Messrs. Sayyad Shirazi and Mohsen Rezaei came from the front. They disagreed over the method of the next operation and the starting point. We negotiated until four in the afternoon, and a one-sided decision was made; Mr. Sayyad Shirazi backed down, but Mr. [Mohsen] Rezaei resisted. Because the majority of the combat forces were under the control of the Revolutionary Guards, and due to political considerations and the need for greater speed, they returned. I attended the Presidium meeting. Decisions were made. I stayed at Parliament that night and studied until late. For security reasons, and also to save time, I avoid making frequent trips between home and Parliament.
