I was at home. I spoke with Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei and Mr. [Mir Hossein] Mousavi about the fate of the hijacked Kuwaiti plane. There is no progress [in solving the hijacking problem], but the hope of accepting some of their demands, from the [government] of Kuwait, has increased. It was said in the news that a letter from [Ronald] Reagan [President of the United States] was sent to the Emir of Kuwait because of the importance of the Americans on the plane. The statement of the hijackers against the release of a group of hostages is supposed to be broadcast on the media.
In the afternoon, relatives of Efat and I were our guests. Tayyaba Hamshireh, Nusrat Khanum and Mahmoud Agha are very satisfied with the trip to Syria.
I told the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency to broadcast the hijackers' announcement [through the media] and not wait for the approval of the Kuwaiti government, so that some [hostages of the hijackers] would be released and the risk would be reduced. I asked the president to order the [air] defense to be ready. The possibility of American adventure [about the hijacked plane] goes. American officials have come to the region and are encouraging the Kuwaiti government to resist [the hijackers' demands]. Akhvi Mohammad [head of the Broadcasting Organization] said, America wants to buy a one-minute film of several Americans [taken hostage] next to the steps of the plane for fifty thousand dollars, I said: don't give [the film]; Because they want to make political use of this film [against Iran].
At night, Mr. [Kamal] Kharazi, [Khosro] Tehrani and [Mohsen] Rezaei came. We discussed about Kuwait plane. It was decided to try to get Kuwait to give them a promise to end the violence.
