Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 9, 1983

A great deal of my time was spent studying the interrogations of the Tudeh members; if what they said is true, it was a vast conspiracy. Dr. Velayati called and consulted me about how to deal with Yasser Arafat's representative. I said the reception should not be cold. I spoke with my brother Mohammad, the managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, about protecting the broadcasting organization, since it is one of the coup plotters' main targets. It became clear that because of disagreements with the Islamic Revolution Committees, it was almost without protection. I was surprised and angry, and spoke with Mr. Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri. It was decided that heavy protection would begin today.

I told my brother Mohammad to speak with Mother Doctor and arrange a time for her visit. Hajieh Bibi, Mrs. Marashi, Mohammad, and I went to kiss Imam's hand. Usually on some days people come to kiss his hand, and the women kiss the Imam's hand over his cloak or something else.

At noon Ahmad Agha came. I gave him the Tudeh members' confessions to read and inform the Imam about. It was decided that, on the Imam's behalf, they would officially notify the broadcasting organization to remove the slogans "Death to America" and "Death to the Soviet Union," which appear in the people's chants, and the other friends also agree.

In the afternoon Dr. Motamedi came from Mashhad and complained that her hospital had been confiscated in the past. She said her husband was coming from America with one hundred and twenty doctors to go to the front, and she was worried they would harass him at the airport.
