Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 5, 1983

After the prayer, I studied until 7:30 in the morning. We had a public session. I entrusted part of the continuation of the session to Mr. Yazdi and came to my office to complete the work on the book “Schools and Values.”

Mr. Mohi al-Din Fazel Harandi, the representative of Eqlid in Fars, came and reported on the seminars in Lar, Shiraz, and Kerman. Mr. Nosratollah Hatefi, the representative of Qorveh, came and spoke about the situation in Kurdistan. Some parliamentary staff also came regarding administrative matters.

In the afternoon, I met with Iran's ambassadors to the Soviet Union, the UAE, and Romania. Several members of the Islamic Teachers' Association came and complained about Mr. Ali Akbar Parvaresh, the Minister of Education, and presented a proposal for the Supreme Council of Education. Mr. Ahmad Jalali came and complained about being unemployed and not being trusted. The officials of the Foundation of the Oppressed came and reported on the foundation's situation and consulted about its future, whether it should become a government institution or remain independent. Mr. Zaeri came and had some points about the navy and the parliament's public relations; they do not have warm relations with the public relations office. I called Mr. Khamenei twice to check on him; he still has a fever.

Ahmad Agha called and informed me that Imam had agreed to the proposal to stop the slogans “Death to America and Death to the Soviet Union” in the state media and had accepted that it be said that it had been stopped by the Imam's order. Also, to limit the marches, which have gradually lost their appeal and people no longer participate in them with their initial enthusiasm. Late at night, I came home. We had guests; they took up some of my time.
