Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 30, 1985

I arrived at the parliament at half past six in the morning. I did the administrative work and saw the reports. Before the order, I talked about Martyr [Mortaza] Motahari and Labor Day, and later I realized that I should talk about Mr. Motahari the day after tomorrow. The members of the oil commission came and consulted about the new oil law - which limits the powers of the minister and is strongly opposed by Mr. [Mohammed] Ghori. Mr. Ghori also appealed to me to oppose it. I said that I am subject to logic.

In the afternoon, the two pilots who recently bombed Baghdad came and I presented them with the amount of one million Rials - which was given by the people as a token of appreciation. In the evening, I went to Tarbiat Modares High School to participate in the second forum "Examining the Thoughts of Martyr Motahari" and gave a lecture to them.

I participated in the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. The limits and rights of academic jihad were approved. The discussion about higher education started in a non-governmental way, which is an important discussion. I spoke in favor of allowing the private sector to participate in this matter.

After the meeting, we had another private meeting with Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei about the war and other matters. A telegram was received from engineer [Mahdi] Bazargan, in which he protested about my statements during Friday prayers. I quoted material from [Jimmy] Carter's book in the Friday prayer, which he said, he had obtained Mr. Bazargan's approval for the Shah's entry into America. Mr. [Ayatollah] Khamenei was saddened by the news that their sister [Khanem Badri Hosseini Khamenei] - who is the wife of Sheikh Ali Tehrani - fled the country with her five children. It has been reported from Türkiye that he is now in Türkiye, but he wants to go to Iraq.
