Memoirs of Akbar Hashemi – April 11, 1989

I arrived at the parliament at ten in the morning. [Mr. Hassan Rezaei] the representative of Andimeshk came and asked for the needs of the region. Mr. [Mahdi] Karroubi [Vice Speaker of the Parliament and Head of the Shahid Foundation] came. He talked about the martyred soldiers' right to sacrifice and discussed the future leadership and issues of the country. Mr. [Alireza] Tabesh and [Hamidreza] Jalaipour, the governor and deposed governor of Kurdistan, came. They complained about the way the Ministry of Interior dealt with it. Mr. Esfandiarpour came and complained about the delay of the Kohdasht election to the Guardian Council; I was supposed to speak. The Guardian Council believes that there are no conditions for holding healthy elections there.

Mr. Sayad [Shirazi] came, told about the plan he prepared for the integration of the army and the IRGC and asked for help for the current expenses of his office. In the evening, I went to Ayatollah Khamenei's office. We discussed current issues including constitutional amendment, presidency and future leadership.

In the evening, the Expediency Council had a meeting. We decided that five hundred million additional dollars should be paid for the supply of basic and essential goods and for the control of prices and the implementation of the law on government subsidies. Regarding the measures taken abroad to support the liberation movements, it was decided that a commission composed of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the [Ministry] of Intelligence and the [Guardian] Corps would be the authority for decision and coordination. I arrived home late.
