Ongoing Repercussions of Ayatollah Khamenei’s Statements on the Definition of Reforms

I spent the day reading at home and at the Kooshk office, including reviewing a book compiled by Mr. [Habibollah] Hamidi from a collection of media articles. The book, which was published during the [2000 parliamentary] election campaign, contains responses to the defamations against me. The content is good, but compared to the vast waves of slander, it is minimal and insufficient.

The dispute between [Kayhan newspaper] and [IRNA] news agency continues; the supporters of the news agency outweigh those of Kayhan, and [Hossein Shariatmadari, Kayhan’s director] has begun to retreat.

Many articles have been published opposing the Supreme Leader's proposal for defining reforms. Although these articles appear to be presented as disagreements with the right-wing, it is clear where they are really aimed.

From the statements of [Bill Clinton], President of the United States, [Ehud] Barak, Prime Minister of Israel, and [Yasser] Arafat, President of the Palestinian Authority, it has become evident that the primary disagreement at Camp David was over Jerusalem. Although issues such as refugees, settlements, water, and military presence were also points of contention, Clinton proposed that East Jerusalem be divided, but this was rejected. Meanwhile, the Arabs have praised Arafat's resistance, but Barak is facing difficulties in Israel.

Efat [Hashemi’s wife] and several relatives went for fresh air and a walk to Bam-e-Tehran in the northern Velanjak area, as planned. After writing my memoirs and revising parts of the index for the Tafsir Rahnama, I went to bed at 10:30 p.m.
