Meeting with Sheikh Ahmad Jannati, Hassan Rouhani, and Ali Larijani for political consultations.

Mr. [Ali Mohammad] Basharati, [Advisor to the Chairman of the Expediency Council], came and spoke about his trips to Mecca and Qom. In Qom, during his meeting with Ayatollah [Lutfollah] Safi Golpayegani, he mentioned the Ayatollah's dissatisfaction with the cultural situation in the country and that he regretted not valuing Hashemi Rafsanjani's leadership period, which led to the current state.

Mr. [Abdulvahed] Mousavi Lari, the Minister of the Interior, came from parliament. He had responded to MPs' questions regarding insecurity in Khorasan and said that their concerns were justified. The issue stems from the state of the police force and the military there, which he couldn’t fully address in his response. He mentioned that some military personnel had become involved in drug addiction and other issues. He also discussed the ongoing problem with the Guardian Council regarding the Tehran elections and expressed hope that the results would be validated. He voiced some complaints about the harsh tone of the Friday sermons, stating that his colleagues were upset. I told him that they were missing the core point.

In the afternoon, a group of Basij members [Central Council of Student Basij] from Tehran University visited. They discussed the situation in universities and invited me to participate in the commemoration of the liberation of Khorramshahr. Sheikh Hassan Sane’i, [President of the Fifteen Khordad Foundation], also visited and expressed concerns about the potential danger posed by the elected representatives of Tehran to the parliament and the revolution, emphasizing the need for a solution.

In the evening, Mr. [Ahmad] Jannati, [Secretary of the Guardian Council], Dr. [Hassan] Rouhani, [Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council], and Mr. Ali Larijani, [Head of IRIB], were my guests. We discussed the Tehran elections. Mr. Jannati said that while some members of the council acknowledge the issues with the Tehran elections, they do not believe that annulling them is in the best interest.
