The most important point of today's notes is the private meeting between Hashemi and Ayatollah Khamenei, which has extremely important historical points.

The interview with Mr. [Masoud] Safari continued for his book ("Truths and Expediencies"). Mr. [Hussein] Mahallouji came. He had some points regarding general issues and development needs.

He complained about the treatment he received regarding the [Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Discernment Council]. In the evening, Mr. [Yahya] Aleeshaq, [Deputy Head of the Foundation of the Oppressed and Veterans], came.

He explained the situation of the Veterans Foundation and its inability to generate income to meet the needs of veterans. He expressed gratitude for my candidacy and said that there is no way for the country except to continue the same policies of reconstruction and development. He also gave a report on public opinion and the wishes of the masses, which he had gathered from his recent presence in mosque gatherings. He believes that the main desire is to improve the economic and livelihood situation.

Mr. [Reza] Abdollahi, the representative of Mahneshan, came and, while thanking me for my candidacy, said that the vast majority of parliamentarians are happy and grateful. He proposed removing bread subsidies – as before – and said that the Bakers' Union, due to the support I provided during my presidency and the organization of their situation, is willing to help in the election.

There are many visits from representatives whose eligibility has been rejected to resolve their issues. I was a guest of the Leader in the evening. We discussed the pardon of Mr. [Gholamhossein] Karbaschi. He insists on a written request for pardon and agreed that as soon as the request is received, he will order legal action.

We talked about the Experts Assembly elections. He said that he has told the Minister of Interior that they have no right to allow individuals disqualified by the Guardian Council to participate in the elections. He also said that [Mr. Seyed Mohammad Khatami], the President, told him that he is satisfied with the Guardian Council's decision, which has shown more tolerance than expected.

We discussed Ayatollah Montazeri's statements in response to the questions of [Reuters] and [The Guardian]. He is upset. He said that Mr. [Ali Akbar] Nateq Nouri, [the Speaker of Parliament], has complained in a way that the Leader did not tell him to participate in the elections. In conclusion, the Leader told me that our positions and statements should be the same in society so that people do not feel a difference and are happy.
