In the morning and afternoon, we held a session of the Assembly of Experts. Most of the time was spent on speeches and reports, and part of it was devoted to approving a new set of regulations. There was also some debate between the left and right factions. During the noon and evening, I went to my office to attend to my work and could not participate in the dinner hosted by Mr. [Mohammad Ali] Taskhiri, the head of the Islamic Culture and Communication Organization, for the members of the Assembly of Experts. The trial of Mr. [Mostafa] Tajzadeh, the Deputy Minister of Interior and head of the country’s election headquarters, has attracted significant attention and has become another factor contributing to the ongoing conflict between the right and left factions.

One of the representatives from the United States has submitted a proposal to Congress that would authorize the President to assassinate leaders of countries that are perceived as troublesome to the U.S.; this is a reckless action. Bahrain is conducting a referendum to transform its emirate into a country with a constitutional monarchy. The new emir aims to open up the political space of the country through a general amnesty.
