Mr. Mojtaba Anvari [from Rafsanjan] came and presented samples of his research on various topics, especially the mines in Kerman and the resources of Rafsanjan. He requested to collaborate with the Center for Strategic Research [Expediency Discernment Council]. [Mr. Ebrahim Motolian and Seyyed Nezameddin Mousavi, along with members of] the Student Basij Position Clarification Council came, praising my return to the scene and expressing hope for a revival of the true revolutionary path. They asked questions about how to make the university Basij more active.

Mr. [Asghar] Afshar, [Director of Protocol of the Expediency Discernment Council], brought samples of Mr. [Gholamhossein] Karbaschi’s statements to foreign reporters. He praised my character and management while criticizing Mr. [Mohammad] Khatami, [the President], and placed himself on the same level as Khatami, calling me a father figure. The leftists seem to be displeased with this interview.

The Jebheh weekly has published a pamphlet in Karaj against the Khatami and Sadoughi families, accusing them of large-scale corruption, though they have omitted their names and the names of their factories, most of which belong to the Sadough Foundation and charity organizations. It is an inappropriate act.

In the evening, Dr. [Hadi] Manafi and Dr. Vafaei came. We discussed political and medical issues. Dr. Manafi expressed concern about the country's executive affairs.

Later, a large group of athletes came. Engineer [Saeed] Faeghi, [Deputy for Technical and Joint Federation Affairs of the Physical Education Organization], reported on the comprehensive growth of sports during the Reconstruction Era, supported by me, which is a source of pride. He also complained about the government's neglect of sports. Other athletes presented reports of successes and progress in women’s sports, mountaineering, judo, karate, weightlifting, and volleyball. I gave them trophies and medals and spoke at length about the importance and effects of sports. I presented each of them with a set of my memoirs as a gift.

Dr. [Mohammad Hossein] Adeli, [Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Affairs], came and complained about not being invited to the cabinet’s banquet. He spoke of the achievements of the Reconstruction Era and the unfairness of the critics. He advised me not to get upset and to not turn my back on political development, saying that I am the founder of political development and should not let others take credit for it.
